Progetto: Forms of Italian Poetry
Acronimo: FIP
Durata: 01/10/2024-30/09/2027
Responsabile scientifico (UL): prof. Andrea Afribo
Abstract:
EN - The FIP project aims to create an innovative digital portal for the study of the metrical aspects of Italian poetry, with a particular focus on the Venetian and ‘padana’ poetry from the 13th to the 16th centuries.
Throughout the history of poetry, metrical features have always been projections of cultural and aesthetic currents. Studies on this topic have made fundamental contributions to the history and geography of literature. FIP is situated exactly in this perspective.
The freely accessible digital portal is structured in two sections. The first contains the «Italian Metrical Repertoire» («Repertorio Metrico Italiano» – ReMI), which focuses primarily on Venetian lyric poetry, which was among the first, if not the first, to embrace the models of Tuscan poetry and then went on to play a leading role in the history of Italian and European Petrarchism. Thanks to a system of markups, the repertoire can be searched by metrical forms (canzone, sonetto, terza rima, etc.), rhyme schemes, types of rhymes and rhyming words, types of lines and their rhythmic profiles. In addition, words and text strings can be associated with the metrical markups. These searches can be cross-referenced to meet the user's specific needs. The second section contains a lemmatized and searchable corpus of the main historical treatises of metrical, rhetorical and stylistic interest (Antonio da Tempo, Bembo, Trissino, Ruscelli, Tasso etc.). This corpus will provide the bases for the creation of the first «Historical Dictionary of Italian Metrics» («Dizionario Storico della Metrica Italiana» – DiSMI). Together, the two sections stimulate and facilitate the verification of the relationships between poetry and criticism, theory and practice in some of the most crucial centuries of Italian poetic history.
The portal created by FIP will therefore be an essential tool for a deeper and more concrete understanding of Italian ancient poetry. In an interdisciplinary perspective, it will be of service not only to metricians, but also to Italianists, philologists and the wider community of scholars, students and enthusiasts.
Progetto: MedSlavGeo - La medicina nella cultura slava orientale e georgiana
Acronimo: MedSlavGeo
Durata: 01/10/2024-30/09/2027
Responsabile scientifico : prof.ssa Claudia Criveller
Abstract:
EN - The research project focuses on the analysis of a large body of literary, scientific and popular works ranging from the nineteenth to the twenty-first centuries, which have appeared in Russian, Belarusian, Ukrainian and Georgian contexts, concerning medicine and the representation of medical professions. The main objective is to understand the evolving perceptions of health systems in these regions. To achieve this, different methods and approaches will be employed, including critical-letter analysis, semiotics, and cultural, anthropological, and ethnological approaches. The research will focus on various facets, such as the historical development of traditional medicine and its impact on popular culture, the relationship between medicine and leisure, the interaction between medicine, religion and sexuality, and the connection between medicine, alcoholism, and urban life. In particular, the project will deal with the representation of health professions, the sick, illness, ages of life, end of life and genders bias, with a focus on disability, treatment, and pharmacology, including alternative pharmacology, health and care facilities, "rituals" with their respective ethical and religious implications. In the field of folk medicine, traditionally and still widely applied in the former Soviet countries, the representation of the use of herbs, alcohol, rituals, and formulas will be studied. A selection of literary and scientific works will be translated into English and Italian to be made available to specialists in anthropology, statistics, and the history of medicine. To facilitate research, a search engine and a digital database of literary and scientific works will be created, accessible through open access resources.
This project will open new perspectives on the perception of medicine in four different countries of the former Soviet Union, through the lens of literature and culture. It will be a bridge between health cultures, allowing for a deeper understanding of the differences that have shaped health systems in different cultures and in their own singular autonomous development.
Progetto: Edizione nazionale delle opere musicali di Giuseppe Tartini
Acronimo: ENGT
Durata: 01/02/2020-28/02/2025
Responsabile scientifico: prof. Sergio Durante
Abstract:
EN - The project aim is the publication in critical edition of the complete musical works by G. Tartini (Piarano 1692- Padova1770), the most important composer of the western tradition that has lived in and distinguished Padua with his work over almost 50 years of creative activity.
Readers should be aware that the present grant application is the third presented to Cariparo Foundation, (the first two having been unsuccessful in 2016 and 2017 for different reasons).
In the intervening time since 2016 the group of scholars attending to the realization of the edition has not been inactive. Even without major financial support we have achieved significant results: 1) a general agreement with a major publishing house for the co-production of the edition (Bärenreiter, Kassel) and the recognition of the edition as Edizione nazionale by the Italian Ministero dei beni culturali, the latter implying also financial support (see budget sheet below). More importantly, we are ahead in the preparation of the first volumes of the Opera omnia. It should be clear therefore that the present request concerns the development the editorial enterprise up to an advanced stage of completion.
Given the nature and the variables of this type of work, it would be irresponsible to declare now that the requested grant will lead us to the full completion of the edition; however, it is safe to say that it would represent an indispensable boost towards the final goal. On the opposite, lacking the financial support we are looking for, the enterprise is doomed to linger indefinitely in the realm of voluntary work. Also importanti s the fact that the requested grant will support the work of two junior and one senior investigators and specifically the editorial work on a relevant number of compositions by Tartini that have never been published.
